In the world of Plate Button, fabric, threads, beads and buttons are handcrafted into exquisite, whimsical miniature dishes.
The idea for this project started in 2018 by Sabrina Lee as an architecture student. While making a 1:100 model of a restaurant under a tight deadline, she thought of using tiny white buttons to represent plates.
Few years later, she revisited this idea after struggling to find a creative outlet through other forms of art. The self initiated design exercise is simple (and silly): to use only materials found in the haberdashery store to create miniature food. Visiting the store then becomes a new and fun creative process, a process of discovering how clothmaking materials resembles food textures and tableware in endless unexpected ways.

Our buttons and materials are sourced in very limited amounts from different retail shops in London, as well as overseas during personal trips. This makes our works more unique, as they cannot be recreated once the buttons are gone.
Whenever possible, recycled materials are used to reduce waste (left photo shows some examples).
Plate Button have been invited to participate in local exhibitions and artist markets, including the London Dollhouse Festival and MUJI Community Market.
Currently, Plate Button sells work online but welcomes opportunities to physically showcase works.
